Concept
A single idea can be the seed for a thousand more… and this can be a good thing. It can also be a daunting notion, considering the vast possibilities and avenues available when starting with a blank page. Our purpose is to help steer you in the right direction. The focus throughout conceptual activities stems from our background in design. We take a top down, bottom up approach to defining goals and problems while simultaneously examining the constraints and parameters of the project. Wedge considers the technical, financial and human interaction components of every project. Through this consideration we glean aesthetics, functionality, methods of production and the execution of a solution. Research on existing markets, opportunities, comparative products, and anthropometric data all ensure you take the right path. We’ll frequently brainstorm to discover new solutions, using sketches and renderings to visually document the process. Development
Refinement of an idea is where we find delight. Call us control freaks, but we feel that design shouldn’t be left to chance. Every project has at least two directions to lean, walking that fine line requires control and understanding. Computer-Aided Design (CAD) is at the forefront of our development toolset. With all of the continuous advancements in CAD software, we’re excited to show you some of our new tricks. As soon as we create a 3D model, we begin to have finite control over every design detail. This allows us to create fully defined virtual drawings extracted from equations and component relationships helping to establish consistent proportions and easy control. Next we leverage the CAD model to create dimensional drawings, bill of materials, photorealistic renderings, flow simulations, and more. CAD models can even allow customers to take the reigns by empowering you to rotate, inspect, and measure on your own. We dig deep to produce a simple solution getting the job done right the first time, keeping your design on task and on budget. PROTOTYPING
Prototyping
Whether exploring the possibilities of a concept or honing in on the subtle curvature of a surface, we use prototyping as a physical tool to verify and validate paths of exploration and development. It’s a quicker and more cost effective means to that end than full production. Rough or refined, you will see prototyping used to test form, fit, functionality, and feasibility throughout our design process. We’ll utilize different methods and mediums of prototyping – foam models, fabrication, 3D printing, CNC-machining, vacuum casting, thermoforming, or computer aided design and simulation. From paper folded prototypes of sheet metal parts to multi-material polyjet 3D prints of injection molded products, we’re ready to help you test your ideas.

Recognizing the importance of designing for manufacturing, and therefore the importance of understanding manufacturing, we continually seek to grow and develop expertise in different methods of manufacturing. We’ve learned from years of expererience that being responsible for day to day routine production work of manufacturing doesn’t allow us to focus on design. However, with our past experience in production and developing quality control methods, we understand how to bridge the needs of a design with the demands of manufacturing.
